JOIN US for our PFAS and FIRE FIGHTING FOAMS Webinar

In recent years there has been an increased interest and urgency in understanding the risk posed by Per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS), which are a family of man-made organic contaminants. PFAS result in a wide range of negative human health consequences and have been dubbed “forever chemicals” due to their long persistence in the environment and biota. One well studied source of PFAS to the environment is from their use in aqueous film forming foams, which are used to fight hydrocarbon fires.

LISTEN TO OUR EXPERT

Dr. MAtt Dunn

In this talk, Dr. Matt Dunn (RPS | A Tetra Tech Company, Ocean Science) will discuss the risks associated with using these foams to fight hydrocarbon fires in ports or other offshore environments. A background on the specific behavior, chemistry, and uses of PFAS in these fire fighting foams will be presented, as well as an overview of the current regulations in place for PFAS. Lastly, numerical modeling examples will be displayed to demonstrate a risk assessment workflow for PFAS released from firefighting foams or other offshore incidents using the CHEMMAP modeling software.
